As most of you know I consider myself a bit of a foodie and I'm a contributing blogger for www.YYCsBestEats.com. So when I heard about Mayor Nenshi's plan to allow food trucks to roam our great city I was excited.
Next Thursday from 11-3 on Stephen Avenue Calgary will officially start The Food Truck Pilot Project. Calgary will be home to 7 food trucks.
Fiasco Gelato
Perogy Boyz
Alley Burger
Fries & Dolls
Jojo's BBQ
Pimentos Mobile Pizzeria
Los Compadres Mexican
The best way to follow the trucks is on Facebook and Twitter, or you can follow YYC Food Trucks. (www.yycfoodtrucks.com or on twitter www.twitter.com/yycfoodtrucks)
That's how I found out that Los Compadres Mexican was open Thursday afternoon in a parking lot at Deerfoot Meadows.
I had the Bisteck Taco's. For $7 I got 3 soft corn tortillas filled with top sirloin steak, diced onions. They also come with cilantro, which is one of those things that people either love or hate. I opted out on the cilantro. The tacos were served with a side of pickled onions, pepper, carrots and an amazing green sauce. I have no idea of what the sauce was, but I would buy bottles of it to keep in my fridge.
The food was authentic mexican food. Don't expect the kind of cheese smothered greasy mexican food that you would find at some other mexican fast food restaurants.
For my first food truck experience I was very satisfied. Fresh authentic mexican food served up by the Los Compadres Mexican food truck. Check out their menu online. (CLICK HERE) And be sure to follow them on Twitter (CLICK HERE) to find out where they'll be next.
